The Ecole FLAM Jersey is a not for profit organisation which was established in Jersey in March 2011. It is part of a network of over 50 FLAM schools established in the UK. It is currently subsidised by the AEFE (Agence de l'Enseignement du Français à l'Etranger), a French public body whose aim is to support the teaching of the French language abroad.
The school enables French and binational children aged 3 to 16 years to practice the French language and to keep in contact with French culture.
The FLAM programme (Français LAngue Maternelle) is designed to enable those children whose parents are resident in Jersey and who are being educated in local English-speaking schools, to practice French as an extra-curricular activity. Classes for younger children (3 to 5 years old) focus mainly on spoken French, while classes for the older children allow them to practice both spoken and written French and to read in French.
The school currently has just over 50 pupils split into 8 classes. Each class is an hour a week (or 45 minutes for the 3 to 5 year olds). Classes take place on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays in the offices of Alliance Française located at 5, Library Place in St Helier.
L'Ecole FLAM Jersey has an exclusive partnership with the Alliance Française and it is their qualified teachers who teach the children.
The school has a library with over 1,500 books, as well as a large selection of DVDs and CDs, which is free to all pupils and their families.
